Description

The maps in this information product illustrate the location of Alberta's 87 provincial electoral divisions. Electoral boundaries are defined by the Alberta Election Act, Chapter E-1, 2018. Provincial electoral divisions are territorial units represented by an elected Member to serve in the Alberta Provincial Legislative Assembly. The provincial electoral divisions included in this information product were enacted in December 2017 and will come into effect for the 2019 provincial general election.

Data have been specifically tabulated from the 2011 Census of Canada and National Household Survey.

First Nations groups have used the Fish Creek valley for over 8000 years, but it wasn't until 1873 that the first permanent settlers of European descent arrived. At 16 years of age, John Glenn is said to have emigrated from Ireland to New York City. After serving in the US civil war, he moved throughout western North America to trade and prospect for gold. In late September of 1873, John and his new bride Adelaide Belcourt settled at the confluence of Fish Creek and the Bow River - making them (along with Sam Livingstone) Calgary's first permanent residents.

This publication is part of a series of field study programs produced by the Environmental Education Program of Natural Resources Service in Kananaskis Country and Fish Creek Provincial Park.
