Description

The purpose of this document is to provide wildlife information to applicants who are applying to conduct activities under the Water Act, such as bank stabilization, water withdrawal, work on outfall structures, and maintenance or construction of infrastructure. Water and the area surrounding water, including vegetation, are typically high quality habitat for wildlife because it provides shelter, food, clean water to drink as well as breeding grounds, migration pathways and hibernation sites. Due to the tendency for wildlife to congregate near water sources, there is potential for activities proposed under the Water Act to impact wildlife.

Description

To help Albertans rebuild after the June 2013 flood, Environment and Sustainable Resource Development (ESRD) developed and Expedited Authorization Process for Flood Recovery (EAPFR) project. As part of this process, applications are referred to ESRD Wildlife Management staff for review to ensure the protection of wildlife and the negative impacts on wildlife and their habitat are properly mitigated.
