After six Muslims were killed in a Quebec City mosque in 2017, the Premier committed to take action against racism in Alberta. This plan delivers on that commitment, following extensive consultations with Albertans who experience racism first-hand. It includes two items to be implemented immediately: the establishment of anti-racism advisory council, and the establishment of a community anti-racism grants program, which will fund community initiatives that fight racism. It also includes commitments to further engagement consultations, to help move forward on other initiatives outlined in the plan.

After six Muslims were killed in a Quebec City mosque in 2017, the Premier committed to take action against racism in Alberta. This plan delivers on that commitment, following extensive consultations with Albertans who experience racism first-hand. This summary document provides a high-level overview of feedback received on the social policy framework from Aboriginal Albertans and from discussions with people with a concern for or who work with Aboriginal Albertans. It reflects input from an estimated 350 people, received during the entire public engagement, from June 7 to November 30, 2012. It is an updated version of Summing Up: Perspectives of Aboriginal Albertans on the Social Policy Framework, which was released in September 2012 and reflected feedback only from the first phase of engagement.

Description

This summary document provides a high-level overview of feedback received on the social policy framework from Aboriginal Albertans and from discussions with people with a concern for or who work with Aboriginal Albertans, from June 7 to August 31, 2012. These individuals represent an estimated figure of about 250 people. For the purposes of this document, the term “Aboriginal” is used to refer to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples.
