Description

As part of the Government of Alberta’s commitment to be open and accountable to the public, all ministries are required to prepare and make public ministry business plans. The ministry business plan encompasses the department and all consolidated entities, and aligns with the strategic direction of the Government of Alberta. Each business plan includes a description of the ministry, desired outcomes, priority initiatives, and performance measures and indicators. Current and forecast budgeting information for the planning period is also included.

Presents the findings and recommendations of the Transforming the Advanced Education System Subcommittee, which was tasked with developing a series of policy strategies and recommendations to support the vision and policy directions identified through the A Learning Alberta initiative. The Subcommittee developed recommendations on three important aspects of the system: funding, quality, and accountability; affordability for learners; and innovation, research, and technology.

In 2005 a comprehensive review of Alberta’s advanced education system, known as A Learning Alberta, was initiated, with the goal of articulating a new vision and policy outcomes for Alberta’s advanced education system. This discussion document focuses on obtaining stakeholder feedback on how to identify and ensure a high quality advanced education system in Alberta. It reviews Alberta's current system of quality assurance and assessment measures, proposes a framework to guide discussions on quality in advanced education, and concludes with key questions.

In 2005 a comprehensive review of Alberta’s advanced education system, known as A Learning Alberta, was initiated, with the goal of articulating a new vision and policy outcomes for Alberta’s advanced education system. This discussion document provides a context for considering opportunities and challenges related to the providers of advanced learning opportunities, and more specifically, how the system could be shaped. It is intended to stimulate discussion and generate feedback as to whether the advanced education system is configured appropriately to respond to future challenges and opportunities, and most importantly, to the future needs of learners.

In 2005 a comprehensive review of Alberta’s advanced education system, known as A Learning Alberta, was initiated, with the goal of articulating a new vision and policy outcomes for Alberta’s advanced education system. This discussion document focuses on obtaining stakeholder feedback on Alberta's current mechanism and policies for investing in the province's advanced education system. The document reviews current mechanisms for providing institutions and other providers with ongoing and targeted funding, reviews historical mechanisms, and begins the process of identifying key issues for consideration.

In 2005 a comprehensive review of Alberta’s advanced education system, known as A Learning Alberta, was initiated, with the goal of articulating a new vision and policy outcomes for Alberta’s advanced education system. This paper supports the initiative by providing a brief overview, citing both national and international examples, of programs and policies that other jurisdictions are using (or contemplating using) to ensure accessibility, affordability and quality within their respective advanced education systems.
