Budget 2020 takes a measured approach to fiscal management focused on getting Albertans back to work, making life better for Albertans, and standing up for Alberta. This budget provides the means to effectively and sustainably deliver public services, and enable job creation by using all tools at the government's disposal to support private sector growth. Please note: the 2020-23 Fiscal Plan Update was added on March 20, 2020, to reflect an additional $500 million in 2020-21 to the Ministry of Health for the provincial response to the COVID-19 pandemic to keep Albertans safe.

Budget 2017 is about making the lives of Albertans better. Alberta is just now beginning to recover from the steepest and most prolonged slide in oil prices in recent history. Alberta is also rebuilding after the Wood Buffalo wildfire – the largest natural disaster in Alberta’s history. Budget 2017 continues to build on the Jobs Plan with economic diversification, support for families and putting Albertans to work. This plan sets the foundation for the return to growth. It is also forward looking and supports sustained growth through investment in critical infrastructure and the implementation of the internationally regarded Climate Leadership Plan that has already resulted in decisions that support expanded market access for Alberta’s energy industry.

Budget 2016 addresses the challenges Albertans face as a result of the steepest and most prolonged slide in oil prices in recent history by promoting economic diversification and job creation, supporting families in times of hardship and improving access to education and skills training while restraining the rate of growth in government operating expense. Budget 2016 implements the Climate Leadership Plan that will make Alberta one of the world’s most progressive and forward-looking energy producers. By addressing climate change in a meaningful way, the Plan will improve access to markets for Alberta’s energy industry. The Plan sets a price for carbon and will fully reinvest these dollars into the economy, helping Albertans and Alberta businesses adjust while also investing in green infrastructure, energy efficiency initiatives and other areas to protect existing jobs and create new jobs in Alberta.
