The current recession caused Alberta’s labour productivity to decline sharply in 2015 as companies saw output fall that year while major payroll cuts were often postponed until 2016. As a result, the 5-year productivity growth rate fell from an average annual increase of 2.3% between 2009 and 2014 to only 0.6% per year between 2010 and 2015.
