MULTISAR is a program focused on multi-species conservation at the landscape level that promotes stewardship through voluntary participation of landholders on both Crown and private lands. The program is a collaborative effort among landholders, Alberta Conservation Association, Alberta Environment and Parks, and the Prairie Conservation Forum. The primary goals of MULTISAR are to implement collaborative strategies to manage multiple species on a defined working landscape and to assist with their implementation. This report summarizes MULTISAR's accomplishments in 2018-2019 in its three primary program areas; habitat conservation strategies; education, outreach and awareness; and research, monitoring, and evaluation.

This is a compilation of previously-documented and newly-discovered records of the western grebe in Alberta through 2016. The report greatly expands the number of lakes known to be occupied during the breeding season to 318, from a previous estimate of 80. The report suggests that western grebes are more abundant and widespread in Alberta than previously thought, and that the current status of "threatened" may require re-evaluation.

Alberta Lepidoptera Inventories are initiated by both the Alberta Government and members of the Alberta Lepidopterist Guild (ALG) who are working together to document all species found in Alberta’s Parks and Protected Areas. Resulting species lists are used by personnel in resource management planning. This report summaries all species that have been documented in Dinosaur Provincial Park. A total of 17 families and 267 species were collected in the park, including 16 three that have a provincial Species Conservation Rank of S1 and 13 that have a rank of S2.

The ferruginous hawk is a large raptor within the Grassland Natural Region of Alberta; inhabiting areas dominated by native prairie. It is currently listed as an Endangered species under Albert’s Wildlife Act. The provincial ferruginous hawk population has been estimated every five years since 1982, except between the years 1993 and 1999. This report presents the findings of the 2015 survey. The 2015 population inventory showed a slight, but insignificant increase. Further research is required to confirm the cause for the slight increase. Although, initial analysis suggests it is related to a fluctuation of their primary prey species as a result of dry conditions of the previous year. Overall, Alberta’s Ferruginous Hawk population remains significantly lower than the 1992 estimate, therefore, it remains essential for management actions to assist in the recovery of the species.

In 2008, a collaborative project was initiated between Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and Alberta Environment and Parks to augment the remaining Canadian population of Greater sage-grouse in southeastern Alberta. Over a two year period (2011-2012) 41 sage-grouse were captured in Montana and translocated to Alberta. These birds were monitored remotely through the use of Global Positioning System (GPS) Platform Transmitter Terminals (PTTs). This report presents results of the project to date.
