Description

As with other Canadian jurisdictions, Alberta is experiencing challenges with its health care system that can be attributed to a worldwide deficit in health workforce supply, as well as challenges with how the existing workforce is utilized. Alberta Health, with input from other Government of Alberta ministries as well as Alberta Health Services, has developed this health workforce strategy to highlight the province's health workforce strengths, to describe current efforts already underway to create a healthy, sustainable, engaged, and efficient health care workforce, and to set out the province's plans to maintain and strengthen this workforce going forward.

The monitoring of adverse events following immunization (AEFI) involving vaccines and biologicals administered in Alberta is an important evaluation component of the provincial immunization program. This document has been developed specifically for COVID-19 vaccine AEFI active surveillance. Active AEFI surveillance for COVID-19 vaccine in Alberta involves a collaboration between Alberta Health, Alberta Health Services Provincial AEFI Team, and the Canadian National Vaccine Safety Network (CANVAS).

Description

This strategic framework is meant to guide Alberta Health Services and community agencies in their work to reduce the incidence of sexually-transmitted and blood-borne infections in the province. The main goal of the framework is to enhance the health and wellness of all Albertans by preventing, reducing the risk, minimizing the impact and diminishing the stigma of sexually-transmitted infections and blood-borne infections. It provides guiding principles for six key action areas: prevention, early detection and diagnosis, treatment, support and care, raising awareness and addressing stigma. The framework was created following discussions and work with more than 350 organizations during stakeholder engagements in the summer of 2016.
