The proposal is to construct and operate the Fort Hills Sturgeon Upgrader and associated infrastructure with a capacity to process 54,000 cubit meters per day of bitumen. The location is approximately 40 km northeast of the city of Edmonton in Sturgeon County. The EIA was deemed complete in 2007. Environmental Impact Assessment and associated applications pertaining to the proposed Canadian Natural Resources Limited Kirby In-Situ Oil Sands Project. The proposal is for steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) technology for the recovery of bitumen, a bitumen processing facility with a capacity of 45,000 barrels per day (bbl/d), a centralized steam generation plant, as well as associated infrastructure. The location of the project is approximately 11 km south of the existing Long Lake project and approximately 16 km south of Anzac within the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.
