Description

The final report from the Research Commercialization Working Group (RCWG) was developed by experts from academia and industry, together with government. The RCWG’s mandate was to deliver on Goal 3 of Alberta 2030: Support Innovation and Commercialization, and provide input to the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy. Some key recommended action items within the report include coordinating government funding on RCWG priority research sectors; developing an intellectual property (IP) framework that aligns IP policies, raises awareness of IP, and creates collaboration/hand-off opportunities to industry; and convening ecosystem players regularly and often to enhance research partnership potential. The Post-secondary Learning Act, together with the regulations, governs the Alberta post-secondary system (universities, comprehensive community colleges, polytechnic institutions, specialized arts and cultural institutions and independent academic institutions), including the six-sector model. The Minister of Advanced Education has sole responsibility for the majority of the Act except for certain sections that are either shared with the Minister of Infrastructure or are the sole responsibility of the Minister of Infrastructure.

Description

This data set includes five years of historical enrolment by Full Load Equivalents (FLE) in Alberta post-secondary system and projected FLEs for a ten year projection horizon. The FLE is measured by taking the load of the learner enrolled (instructional hours + practicum hours) and dividing by the full load of that program. This results in a comparable metric to be able to use across the system. The FLE calculation is consistent for every institution and program. Alberta Advanced Education's (AE) projection model uses historical enrolment data and population projections from Alberta Treasury Board and Finance as inputs to the model.

Every two years, Advanced Education commissions a survey of post-secondary graduates called the Graduate Outcomes Survey, to collect information that is used to inform strategic planning and results reporting, both for the Province and for post-secondary institutions. The project also included the Employment Success Survey, which is fielded to supervisors of employed graduates, to acquire information about the skills and knowledge of recent graduates and to what extent they match the types of skills and knowledge that employers require in employees.
