This report provides summary analysis of the occupational fatalities in Alberta during the last ten years. Between 1996 and 2005, the Workers' Compensation Board (WCB) ? Alberta accepted 1,161 occupational fatalities for compensation. In 2005, there were 143 fatalities accepted for compensation, the highest one-year total in the last ten years. The trend lines displayed indicate that over this period there has been an upward movement in the number of fatalities. However, this does not take in to account the change in the number of people working in Alberta, which has also increased significantly in the last ten-years.
