The MULTISAR program is focused on multi-species conservation at the landscape level that promotes stewardship through voluntary participation of landholders on both Crown and private lands. It is a collaborative effort among landholders, Alberta Conservation Association, Alberta Environment and Parks, and the Prairie Conservation Forum. This report summarizes MULTISAR's accomplishments in 2022-2023 in its three primary program areas: habitat conservation strategies; education, outreach and awareness; and research, monitoring, and evaluation.

The MULTISAR program is focused on multi-species conservation at the landscape level that promotes stewardship through voluntary participation of landholders on both Crown and private lands. Knowledge for a Changing Environment: 2019-2024 Science Strategy sets the strategic direction for an integrated environmental science program to monitor, evaluate, and report on the condition of Alberta’s ambient environment. The strategy lays the foundation to: address key environmental information needs of multiple users; deliver transparent, sound and trustworthy science on environmental conditions; braid Indigenous Knowledge with classical science through knowledge co-production; and provide scientifically-sound information to decision makers so they can address provincial environmental challenges.

This report is the final deliverable of an air quality modelling contract. The study built upon previous modelling studies focused on central Alberta and expanded the scope to include all regions of Alberta. Other improvements in this study included modelling a complete calendar year, emissions inventory updates for key sectors, and sector-based source apportionment for seven distinct sectors. Province-wide source apportionment will help inform air quality management initiatives, such as managing against the Canadian Ambient Air Quality Standards and other provincial air quality frameworks.
