Description

A Waste Management Stakeholder Group was established in the Fall of 2003 to help Alberta Environment develop a long-term waste strategy for the province. As part of its work, a Hazardous Waste Technical Committee was formed to clarify outstanding technical issues around hazardous waste treatment and importation. This report presents the findings and recommendations of the Committee.

This project was undertaken to prepare an inventory of active and inactive land disposal sites for the Province of Alberta. A standard point scoring system was developed and used to screen the land disposal sites into three groups according to potential health and the environmental hazards. This joint federal/provincial project is part of a national program.
