This report was commissioned to analyze whether tourism visitation in the Canadian Badlands Region is being constrained by the fixed roof accommodation capacity in the region. The objective of the study was to identify the nature of the constraints (quantity, quality, economic viability, distribution) relative to the visitation patterns in the region, and provide recommendations to alleviate these constraints and enhance the economic viability of the tourism industry throughout the region.

Presents the findings of a study commissioned by Alberta Economic Development to investigate the key prospects for propylene upgrading in Alberta. Appreciable propylene is produced in Alberta as a byproduct in ethylene production, oil sands upgrading, and oil refining and, to a minor extent, in other petrochemical intermediate production. This study was intended to see if economics appear attractive for local production of three to-be-identified important derivatives.

Description

The Calgary-Edmonton Intercity Passenger Rail Study consisted of 3 phases: Phase I consisted of five sub-studies aimed at identifying a role for passenger rail. Consultants Loram International Ltd. concluded that a high-speed rail service potentially could be useful but that additional analyses were required. Phase II was the result: four sub-studies on modal demand, route assessment, operational costs, and financial matters. Phase III was aimed at refining the earlier results, so that a decision could be made whether or not to proceed with design, engineering and protection of right-of-way, should the government so decide. Included were studies of the route, downtown access, facilities, rolling stock, and economic and financial aspects. This presentation provides the results of all work completed to date.

This study on the potential for production in Alberta of significant chemicals going into polyurethane products was commissioned by Alberta Economic Development. The study considers chemicals considered most likely to lead to a polyurethane ingredient industry in Alberta. The study is intended to provide bases for consideration and promotion of the production of such chemicals in Alberta. It will be noted later that very proprietary technologies are involved in a few key processing steps, processes that will come with the plant operator.
