Description

Campus Alberta Planning Resource (CAPR) is the yearly environmental scan and planning resource of the Campus Alberta Planning Framework (CAPF). CAPR is designed to give Alberta's advanced education system a context to support planning and priority setting. It helps set parameters around enrolment and program-related choices and provides common data and information for evidence-based decision-making. It supports institutional planning and system alignment, and identifies broader strategic directions and policy outcomes.

Description

Since 1998, the Government of Alberta and post-secondary institutions have collaborated to conduct a biannual survey of graduates to assess outcomes such as graduate satisfaction, achievement of personal goals, employment status and compensation. This report presents the findings of the survey of the class of 2007-2008 and investigates graduates’ satisfaction with their post‐secondary educational experience and their employment outcomes approximately two years after graduation.

In response to a need identified by post-secondary education stakeholders for structure, guidance, and standardized processes for prior learning assessment and recognition (PLAR), Alberta Advanced Education and Technology (AET) released Advancing PLAR in Alberta: an Action Plan in October 2008 (hereafter referred to as the PLAR Action Plan). With the intention of initiating and setting the stage for the implementation of the action plan, the PLAR manager met with key stakeholders in Alberta’s publicly funded post-secondary institutions to conduct an informal environmental scan.

In response to the Minister’s Mandate Letter from the Premier, the Minister of Advanced Education and Technology (AET) initiated a roles and mandates review of the provincially funded research and innovation system (“the system”) in June 2008. The review process commenced with a multi‐stakeholder consultation in July, followed by a series of meetings between the Ministry and organizations operating within this system. This paper is a statement of ministerial intent with respect to the principles and the proposed framework that will ensure improved efficiency and effectiveness across the provincially funded research and innovation system.

The Vibrant Learning Communities framework and action plan was developed to strengthen the ability of community adult learning councils and other community literacy providers to provide local programs and services, clarify their important role, and create greater alignment with the public post-secondary system, specifically, with comprehensive community institutions. The Roles and Mandates Framework designates 11 colleges as comprehensive community institutions which have a broader role in working with community learning providers in meeting literacy and foundational learning needs, and ensuring access to a broad spectrum of learning for a geographic service region.
