This health evidence review describes the resource requirements and implementation considerations of a clinical pathway for screening and management of congenital cytomegalovirus in Alberta. The report synthesizes evidence relating to five evaluative domains: the condition, screening, capacity, system and societal awareness and acceptability, and costs. They were addressed through 12 scoping reviews, two systematic reviews, two jurisdictional scans, one environmental scan, thirteen sets of interviews (each with multiple stakeholders), two analyses of administrative data, and a sentiment analysis.

This annual summary highlights key findings on the incidence of communicable diseases in Alberta. Requirements for reporting communicable diseases are mandated by the Communicable Diseases Regulation, under the Public Health Act. Alberta Health participates in the collection, analysis and interpretation of communicable disease data to assist the Chief Medical Officer of Health in fulfilling the duties prescribed in the Public Health Act.

Description

This systematic review examined interventions that support the transition from child and youth services to adult services for emerging adults aged 12–25 who have a mental health concern along with at least one additional learning or social need. Following Cochrane guidelines, researchers searched multiple academic and grey literature sources from 2018 to April 2025 and ultimately found only three eligible studies from the United Kingdom and Australia. These studies focused on young people with autism spectrum disorder, intellectual disabilities, co-occurring mental health issues, or severe mental health symptoms paired with histories of serious offences. Overall, the evidence base remains extremely limited, and while certain practices appear promising, there is insufficient research to determine which interventions are most effective.

This systematic review examines the effectiveness of community- and school-based employment and vocational programs for emerging adults. It includes 106 studies covering diverse populations, including people with mental health or neurodevelopmental disorders, disabilities, low incomes, or involvement with service systems. Overall, 73 studies reported significant improvements in at least one outcome, including 23 that found increased employment. Other outcomes included wages, hours worked, mental health, housing stability, social skills, education and career readiness. The findings suggest vocational training can improve employment and other outcomes across diverse groups of emerging adults.
