This guide is designed to assist Alberta landowners who have been approached by a renewable energy developer that is seeking to lease land for the development and construction of solar or wind energy power generation. The recommendations in this document are targeted towards lease agreements where the renewable energy developer owns and operates the technology and infrastructure, connects into the grid, and compensates the landowner for the use of the land.

Presents the results of a study funded by the Irrigation Council to investigate the opportunities for developing additional storage to improve future water security in southern Alberta. After reviewing previous studies and doing additional modelling and analysis, this study determined there is limited opportunity for additional water storage in southern Alberta. The consultant reviewed existing studies and conducted modelling within the boundaries of current regulations and apportionment agreements.

This research project was commissioned by Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development in order to provide insights into the functioning of Alberta local food supply chains. As the demand for local food grows in the province, ARD is looking for ways to encourage the development of supportive infrastructure that is necessary in order to meet the growing demand. This study is a pilot to examine one local food product – differentiated beef – across three types of local supply chains in Alberta: a direct marketing supply chain, an intermediated supply chain and a mainstream grocery supply chain. This pilot study will help to determine if future expansion of the research to other local products would be fruitful in terms of informing future policy and programs.

Irrigated agriculture accounts for a large portion of agricultural production in Alberta. Water quality is intricately linked to agricultural production. Quality production is reliant upon clean source water. Water quality deterioration can occur in a number of ways, including land use impacts from agricultural, industrial, urban, and rural development. The objectives of this study were to: assess the quality of source water used for irrigation from a food production perspective; assess changes in water quality as water travels through the irrigation infrastructure; determine if there are differences in water quality among the irrigation districts; and determine if there are differences in water quality between two types of conveyance systems.
