Presents the results of a focused inspections campaign to educate employers and employees about vulnerable workers and conduct inspections and education high-risk industries with vulnerable workers. Vulnerable workers are defined as workers who may have greater exposure than most to injury and illness due to their lack of experience, reluctance to ask questions, communication barriers and type of work.

Presents the results of a focused inspections and awareness campaign for care workers. Care workers are at a greater risk for injury/illness from worksite violence due to a number of compounding factors. The purpose of the focused inspections was to raise awareness of the known workplace hazards for care workers and to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code. The program helped the employers to address the non-compliance issues identified by the OHS officers and implement the required corrective measures.

In 2017 the Government of Alberta began a review of its Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) system. This includes a review of Alberta’s enforcement and prevention activities as well as the OHS Act. This discussion paper provides a brief overview of the purpose of the review and the current state of the OHS system. It then outlines three broad topics which the review will focus on: responsibility, worker engagement, and prevention. Items for consideration are included for each of these topics. The discussion paper ends with information on how to become involved in the review.
