Description

This annual summary highlights key findings on the incidence of communicable diseases in Alberta. Requirements for reporting communicable diseases are mandated by the Communicable Diseases Regulation, under the Public Health Act. Alberta Health participates in the collection, analysis and interpretation of communicable disease data to assist the Chief Medical Officer of Health in fulfilling the duties prescribed in the Public Health Act.

Description

The Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) is a publicly-funded health care plan. It is established in accordance with the Canada Health Act principles of public administration, comprehensiveness, universality, portability and accessibility. The Statistical Supplement is an accompaniment to the Alberta Ministry of Health annual report and includes data on the number of people registered with the AHCIP, payments made by the AHCIP to Alberta physicians and allied practitioners (dental specialists/oral surgeons, optometrists and podiatrists) for services provided to Albertans, and payments for services provided to Albertans while they are out of the country. The Statistical Supplement also reports data on the non-group supplementary health insurance plans.

This document summarizes what was heard from participants and presenters during the Indigenous Primary Health Care Innovation Forum, held in Edmonton on January 10 and 11, 2023. The purpose of the forum was to discuss current challenges in Alberta's primary health care system for First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, and to identify innovative solutions from other jurisdictions to address these challenges. Results of the forum will also inform inform the Indigenous Primary Health Care Advisory Panel's final report to the Minister of Health.
