Description

The final report from the Research Commercialization Working Group (RCWG) was developed by experts from academia and industry, together with government. The RCWG’s mandate was to deliver on Goal 3 of Alberta 2030: Support Innovation and Commercialization, and provide input to the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy. Recommended action items within the report include: coordinating government funding on RCWG priority research sectors; developing an intellectual property (IP) framework that aligns IP policies, raises awareness of IP, and creates collaboration/hand-off opportunities to industry; and convening ecosystem players regularly and often to enhance research partnership potential. Managed by Alberta Enterprise and Advanced Education (EAE), the Research Capacity Program (RCP) has been an active participant in the funding of research infrastructure at Alberta universities since 2000. In that time, the program has significantly impacted the larger research community. By promoting research quality, fostering innovation, and supporting strategic initiatives, the RCP's activities are benefiting Alberta. Key research initiatives supported by the program have gained national and international recognition and contributed to Alberta through training a highly qualified workforce, providing new knowledge that leads to new company development and the development of treatments and diagnoses for improved health outcomes.
