Description

In July 2022, the Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Education Act came into force and established the role of the Registrar. The Registrar has a number of statutory accountabilities related to managing apprenticeship education programs and industry training programs, registering apprentices, and issuing credentials. The purpose of this document is to provide system partners with an overview of some of the key activities of the Registrar in the 2022-23 fiscal year.

The final report from the Research Commercialization Working Group (RCWG) was developed by experts from academia and industry, together with government. The RCWG’s mandate was to deliver on Goal 3 of Alberta 2030: Support Innovation and Commercialization, and provide input to the Alberta Technology and Innovation Strategy. Recommended action items within the report include: coordinating government funding on RCWG priority research sectors; developing an intellectual property (IP) framework that aligns IP policies, raises awareness of IP, and creates collaboration/hand-off opportunities to industry; and convening ecosystem players regularly and often to enhance research partnership potential. The project also included the Employment Success Survey, which is fielded to supervisors of employed graduates, to acquire information about the skills and knowledge of recent graduates and to what extent they match the types of skills and knowledge that employers require in employees.
