Albertans shared their feedback on the draft Mooring Disturbance Standard in May 2020 and from November 2 to December 14, 2020 through two online surveys. The purpose of the disturbance standard is to set the maximum acceptable footprint for temporary seasonal docks, temporary seasonal boat lifts and associated mooring structures for personal recreational purposes on the beds and shores of Alberta’s recreational lakes and rivers that are public land owned by the Crown. The disturbance standard creates a general permission for most waterfront, semi-waterfront and municipal dock owners and eliminates the need for them to apply for an authorization if they abide by the standards.

The Disturbance Standard sets the maximum acceptable footprint for temporary seasonal docks, temporary seasonal boat lifts and associated mooring structures for personal recreational purposes on the beds and shores of Alberta's recreational lakes and rivers that are public land owned by the Crown. On May 31, 2016, Bill 21, the Modernized Municipal Government Act (MMGA), was introduced to the Legislative Assembly. Following introduction, Municipal Affairs began meeting with stakeholders to gather their thoughts on the proposed changes to the Municipal Government Act. Feedback was gathered over the summer of 2016 and changes to the MMGA were introduced during the Fall 2016 session of the Legislature. Municipal Affairs also began a second round of discussions, with this paper being used to continue the conversation and to raise some technical or clarifying changes that may be necessary to improve the act's effectiveness. The paper includes a discussion and description of emerging topics and how the act could be amended to address them, and a listing of proposed general technical amendments.

Alberta's Climate Change Advisory Panel was established in the summer of 2015 to guide a climate leadership discussion process, to gather public and stakeholder input and advice in the development of government action plan to address climate change. The discussions included public open houses, an online engagement, online document submission, Aboriginal People's engagement and technical stakeholder sessions. The Climate Leadership Discussion Document was developed to lay the foundation for the climate change discussions the panel conducted with Albertans. It sets out the challenges Albertans face, presents considerations and options for action, and offers crucial questions that Albertans had the opportunity to explore.

A review of the Municipal Government Act was begun by the Government of Alberta in 2012, to ensure the Act continued to meet evolving needs. In preparation for public consultations on the review, a series of draft discussion papers were created by Municipal Affairs staff and stakeholders. The discussion papers were the result of a review of the current Act and regulations, definitions of terms and processes, changes requested by stakeholders over the preceding 18 years, and highlights from other jurisdictions.
