Description

Alberta’s government is proclaiming into force sections of the Health Professions Act that prohibit regulated health professionals from prescribing hormone therapy to minors for the purpose of treating gender dysphoria or gender incongruence, except in accordance with exceptions set out by the ministerial order. Exceptions will apply for minors who: have already commenced hormone therapy to treat gender dysphoria or gender incongruence; are aged 16 and 17 with parental/legal guardian, physician and psychologist approval; and, have a disorder of sex development (e.g., intersex), regardless of a co-existing diagnosis of gender dysphoria or gender incongruence.
