The Alberta Corporate Tax Regulation supports the administrative process for the collection, reporting and remittance of income tax by corporations with a permanent establishment in Alberta as set out in the Alberta Corporate Tax Act. The Regulation clarifies the calculation of taxable income earned in Alberta, prescribes leases and specifies rates for the purpose of the royalty tax credit, clarifies aspects of the Alberta Scientific Research and Experimental Development tax credit, provides for the Alberta Qualifying Environmental Trust tax credit, and prescribes the quarterly interest rates for the purposes of the Act.

It establishes tax rates and methodology for calculating taxes owing, authorizes any corporate refundable tax credits and provides the relevant administrative and enforcement provisions related to tax collection. The Act also imposes the insurance premiums tax payable by corporations carrying on the business of insurance in Alberta.

Requires the Minister to work with financial institutions and community advocacy groups to promote and report on development and implementation of short term lending alternatives to payday loans. The Act will allow the Lieutenant Governor in Council, acting on the Minister’s advice, to further reduce the maximum cost of borrowing to an annualized 60 per cent when they are satisfied that these alternative products are available and there are sufficient numbers of individuals using these alternatives to payday loans.
