Description

The objective of this report is to provide a "handbook type" guide which can be used by Alberta industry in selecting environmentally acceptable and cost effective management options for their wastes. By using Canadian and international waste identification and classification codes it is also hoped that this guide will promote the adoption and use of these codes in Alberta.

Description

This document is a guide for the waste management industry in managing waste and hazardous waste in Alberta. It provides guidance to sections of the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act and the Waste Control Regulation. Extensive lists of hazardous and non-hazardous wastes are provided, in order to eliminate the need for laboratory analysis of these wastes. Generators are encouraged to use any available knowledge of their waste to reduce the amount of analysis required in classification. This guide holds generators responsible for classifying their own waste and for determining if the waste is prohibited from landfilling.
