From 2000 to 2013, motor vehicle traffic collisions were the second leading cause of injury hospitalizations in Alberta. This issue of Health Trends Alberta looks at variance in hospitalization rates for motor vehicle accidents for three age groups, and at the trends in hospitalization rates over time.

In 2013, there were 5,379 visits to emergency departments for injuries attributed to ATV use for an age-standardized visit rate of 140.7 per 100,000 population The injury visit rate was 2.8 times higher for males. The higher male to female ratio of injury visits occurred in all health service zones.
