Environmental assessment registry documents pertaining to the proposed MD of Acadia and Special Areas Joint Irrigation Project ("the Project"). Located approximately 250 km east of Calgary and 100 km north from Medicine Hat, Alberta, the Project is a proposed greenfield irrigation project that will provide irrigation within the MD of Acadia and Special Areas. The Project requires a new Red Deer River pump station and will involve pumping water from the Red Deer River and storing it in reservoirs to use for irrigation. The Project will include the creation of two preliminary reservoirs, one (with a live storage volume of approximately 34,000,000 m3 and a maximum dam height of 30.5 m) located 1 km north of the Red Deer River, on the boundary between the MD of Acadia and Special Area No. 3, and the other (with a live storage volume of approximately 134,000,000 m3 and a maximum dam height of 40 m) located approximately 5.5 km southwest of Bindloss, AB. Aquatic Invasive Species pose a significant threat to Alberta's aquatic ecosystems and water infrastructure. These non-native species, including invasive mussels, plants, and fish, often outcompete native species due to a lack of natural predators. They disrupt aquatic ecosystems, cause costly damage to water infrastructure, and negatively impact recreation and tourism. The Provincial Aquatic Invasive Species Task Force recommends several key measures to combat the spread of aquatic invasive species, with particular emphasis on invasive mussels.

Environmental assessment registry documents pertaining to the proposed St. Mary River Irrigation District Chin Reservoir Expansion project. Chin Reservoir is an off-stream storage reservoir that is located roughly in the middle of St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID) irrigation network, approximately 30 kilometers (km) east of Lethbridge and 15 km south of Taber. The Chin Reservoir Expansion Project (the Project) involves the construction of a new dam which would result in a larger reservoir. The new dam would be approximately 40 meters (m) in height and is expected to inundate (flood) approximately 650 hectares (ha) of privately held land within Chin Coulee. The technical submission does not alter Alberta's position that the proposed emissions cap is unconstitutional. As set out in Section 92A of the Constitution Act, 1867, Alberta has exclusive jurisdiction to manage the rate of non-renewable natural resources production and operational aspects of their development in the province.

Description

Presents findings of a study to complete a problem formulation for human health risks associated with surface water impacts after a wildfire. The main goal of the work was to better understand and assess potential human health risks from the Horse River Wildfire on surface water bodies that serve as drinking and recreational water sources and apply learnings to future wildfires. Five recommendations are provided, including a review of facilities in Alberta that are most susceptible to wildfire associated surface water risk and generation of a small suite of key indicator compounds to help notify water users of the wildfire related impacts to water.
