Specifically, this review assesses findings pertaining to the appropriate clinical indications for M-MHR, its safety, efficacy/effectiveness, cost and cost-effectiveness, and patient outcomes of M-MHR.

Description

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are one of the substances formed during incomplete combustion of organic fuels. In Alberta, oil and gas flares are a source of PAHs, which may lead to the exposure of surrounding vegetation. Two methods can be used to determine exposure: ambient air quality monitoring near the vegetation in the vicinity of a flare, or the vegetation itself. This project was designed to investigate the use of biomonitoring methods to measure the exposure of vegetation to the emissions from sour gas flares.

Participants shared information and research on recent chronic pain initiatives, and discussed the opportunities and challenges this area of health research faces. Included in this conference proceedings document are research reports provided in advance to all attendees and a series of presentations made by the Alberta Heritage Foundation for Medical Research, Alberta Health and Wellness, the University of Calgary, Calgary Chronic Pain Centre, and Lifemark Health Institute Inc. The document concludes with a summary of group discussion, and "next steps" to be taken.

Description

The primary purpose of this project was to determine the extent to which two fly ashes readily available in Alberta affect the properties of concrete considered for use in bridge works, and accordingly to establish the conditions under which fly ash can safely be specified in such bridge works. The results confirm many potential advantages of using fly ash in air-entrained concrete, including reduced heat of hydration, the option to increase specified strength or reduce the unit volume cost, or some combination of both, particularly in massive bridge components, along with the prospect of satisfactory freeze-thaw durability under moist salt­-free exposure conditions, increased resistance to chloride ion penetration, and reduced shrinkage potential. Most of these benefits are realized more fully using a superplasticizing admixture instead of a conventional water-reducing admixture.
