Description

This GIS dataset represents a reclassification of existing surficial map information for the purpose of portraying the distribution of sand and gravel deposits in Alberta. The surficial geology of Alberta ungeneralised digital mosaic (Alberta Geological Survey DIG2013-0001) represents the primary source of information used in this reclassification. This dataset was updated with more recently published 1:100,000 scale surficial geology maps, and where appropriate new polygon features that were digitized from line features in the Glacial Landforms of Alberta (Alberta Geological Survey Map 604 and DIG2014-0022). The updated surficial geology mosaic was then reclassified using a thematically-based attribute table which categorizes the original surficial geology features based on their sand and gravel component. Description

This GIS dataset is a compilation of existing surficial map information for the Calgary-Lethbridge Corridor area tiled into one layer. It is suitable for presentation and use at 1:250 000 scale. The dataset was prepared by appending existing GIS datasets into one layer with a standard attribute table. These datasets were then compared against surficial maps for which GIS data were unavailable. Lastly, polygon boundaries were modified to agree with the surface topography as represented by a digital elevation model (DEM) with a grid cell size of 25 metres. Data sources included published Alberta Geological Survey and Geological Survey of Canada maps and the Agricultural Regions of Alberta Soil Inventory Database Version 4.0. Legend information for each polygon was translated by the author into the standard schema. This GIS dataset portrays the distribution of glacial landforms within the Calgary-Lethbridge Corridor area, based on the compilation of existing government survey mapping and research literature, supplemented by new analysis of remote sensing data. The original line features have been modified where necessary for map production at 1:250 000 scale. This dataset contains the line features of Alberta Geological Survey Map 579, Surficial Geology of the Calgary-Lethbridge Corridor, and has been exported in a shapefile format for public distribution.

This lithium ground- and formation-water geochemical dataset will enable present and future companies to better evaluate their targets and characterize their resource estimates by being able to distinguish between background and anomalous concentrations of lithium throughout Alberta. The dataset comprises lithium geochemical data from ground and formation water in Alberta and near the Alberta border. The data were captured from several databases, including those from Alberta Geological Survey (oil and gas wells database, AERI and Beaver River Basin projects), and the Alberta Research Council. In total there are 1,511 records, of which 48 records have >75 mg/L Li. Nineteen analyses have >100 mg/L Li (up to 140 mg/L) and occur within the Middle to Upper Devonian Beaverhill Lake Formation and Woodbend and Winterburn groups of west-central to northwestern Alberta. Economic concentrations of lithium are known to form in either lithium pegmatite or in high-lithium brine and clay. A...

This dataset evaluates the sandstone-hosted uranium potential of Alberta. An Alberta Geological Survey database of oil and gas well logs were queried to identify wells with gamma values greater than 300 API (American Petroleum Institute units). An algorithm written for this analysis queried more than 48 000 gamma ray logs from more than 22 000 wells. Of those, 11 476 readings greater than 300 API, within the upper 500 metres, were found in 6176 wells. We selected 1318 wells, verified the anomaly and determined rock types using a combination of gamma, density and resistivity logs. This dataset is associated with Alberta Geological Survey Open File Report 2009-0012.
