This polygon dataset is part of the three-dimensional (3-D) hydrostratigraphic model of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin in the Edmonton-Calgary Corridor, central Alberta. This dataset provides the areal distribution of greater than or equal to 0.60 net-to-gross sandstone values for the Paskapoo Formation - Lower Composite Slice, defined by an analysis of normalized oil and gas well digital gamma-ray logs to produce discrete slices of net-to-gross sandstone distribution within the Paskapoo Formation. The zonated Paskapoo Formation - Lower Composite Slice is in ESRI shapefile format for input into a groundwater flow model. This dataset supplements Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) Open File Report 2014-10, which includes a full description of the steps taken to produce the dataset.

This grid dataset is part of the three-dimensional (3-D) hydrostratigraphic model of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin in the Edmonton-Calgary Corridor, central Alberta. It represents the net-to-gross sandstone ratio distribution within the Paskapoo Formation - Upper Composite Slice of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin. The Upper Composite Slice is one of three distinct geological domains identified in the Paskapoo Formation of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin model. Characterization of net-to-gross sandstone ratio distribution within the Paskapoo Formation provides information about the geological heterogeneity and potential hydraulic connectivity within the formation for input into a groundwater flow model. Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) Open File Report 2014-10 includes a full description of the process used to produce the net-to-gross sandstone ratio grid.

It represents the structure top of hydrostratigraphic unit (HSU) C2, which contains the majority of fine-grained materials in the Neogene-Quaternary succession of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin and is the top boundary of the model domain. This dataset supplements Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) Open File Report 2014-10, which includes a full description of steps taken to produce the structure grid.

Description

This GIS dataset is a compilation of existing surficial map information for the Calgary-Lethbridge Corridor area tiled into one layer. It is suitable for presentation and use at 1:250 000 scale. The dataset was prepared by appending existing GIS datasets into one layer with a standard attribute table. These datasets were then compared against surficial maps for which GIS data were unavailable. Lastly, polygon boundaries were modified to agree with the surface topography as represented by a digital elevation model (DEM) with a grid cell size of 25 metres. Data sources included published Alberta Geological Survey and Geological Survey of Canada maps and the Agricultural Regions of Alberta Soil Inventory Database Version 4.0. Legend information for each polygon was translated by the author into the standard schema. The original line features have been modified where necessary for map production at 1:250 000 scale. This dataset contains the line features of Alberta Geological Survey Map 579, Surficial Geology of the Calgary-Lethbridge Corridor, and has been exported in a shapefile format for public distribution.

This dataset is part of the three-dimensional (3-D) hydrostratigraphic model of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin in the Edmonton-Calgary Corridor, central Alberta. It represents the structure top of the Lea Park Formation in the Sylvan Lake sub-basin. Bedrock units included in the Sylvan Lake sub-basin model are derived from the Geological Framework of Alberta, a regional geological model of the province. The Top of Lea Park Formation, provided by the Geological Framework of Alberta, was clipped to the Sylvan Lake sub-basin model domain for integration into a multi-layer hydrostratigraphic model. This dataset supplements Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) Open File Report 2014-10, which includes a full description of the methodology used to produce this grid.
