The database compiles different sources and contains information on 7923 wells (15,200 formation picks, 37,357 coal picks, 495 coal analyses and 363 vitrinite reflectance measurements). The dataset includes subsurface stratigraphic picks of the top of the Belly River Group in the Alberta Plains (Townships 1 to 50, Ranges 1W4 to 2W5) made from wireline, geophysical well logs. The dataset supplements Alberta Geological Survey Open File Report 2010-10, which describes the methodology. We screened the well data to detect errors resulting from deviated wells, as well as incorrect ground and kelly bushing elevation data. We used statistical methods to identify local and regional statistical outliers, which were examined individually.

The base of the Paskapoo Formation is unconformable with the underlying Scollard Formation. Alberta Geological Survey differentiates the Paskapoo Formation from the underlying Scollard Formation by the first thick sandstone above the uppermost coal seam of the Ardley coal zone. We defined 'thick sandstone' to be 5 m or more thick. This dataset contains the gridded results of the structural surface of the base of the Paskapoo Formation modelled from stratigraphic picks of the >5 m sand above the Scollard Formation coal from oil and gas industry gamma-ray logs. We modelled only the undeformed part of the Paskapoo Formation, which lies east of the Rocky Mountains deformation belt. Because of uncertainty in defining the Paskapoo-Scollard contact, we selected the P20 (20th percentile or low estimate) modelled surface of those data, which is about 5 m deeper than the P50 or median estimated surface. Description

This GIS dataset is a compilation of existing surficial map information for Alberta tiled into one layer. It was an interim product to produce the generalized polygon dataset (Alberta Geological Survey DIG 2013-0002), which is suitable for presentation and use at 1:1,000,000 scale. We prepared the data by appending existing GIS datasets of each surficial map of Alberta into one provincial layer with a standard attribute table. Data sources included published Alberta Geological Survey and Geological Survey of Canada maps, one master's thesis, and ecological (biophysical) land-classification maps of the mountain parks. When possible, we transferred all of the legend data from each map source into the standard schema. As part of our 1:1,000,000-scale map project, we completed mapping the unmapped areas of Alberta at roughly 500,000 to 1,000,000 scale. This dataset includes those previously unpublished data. Description

This is a 1000 m cell-sized raster grid dataset of the top of the sandstone of the Haynes member of the Paskapoo Formation. We mapped the sandstone using 3-D geostatistical modelling algorithms from data derived from sand calculations of 25 m thick slice intervals of the Paskapoo Formation. We selected the >55% sand isovalue to define sandstone, based on the results of mini-models that show vertical hydraulic connections being established if sand abundance is 55% or greater. This grid represents the upper surface of that three-dimensional body defined by the >55% sand threshold value. Alberta Geological Survey Bulletin 66 provides a detailed description of how the unit was defined. The dataset is in ESRI ASCII grid format.
