Description

To obtain timely data for the purpose of air quality assessment, air quality trend reporting and to meet the requirements for inclusion of the data in provincial and national air quality databases, a continuous method of analyzing Ammonia (NH3) concentrations in ambient air is used. This method is capable of measurement updates at a rate of once every five minutes or faster. Readings from instruments of this method enables the calculation of hourly averaged concentrations of NH3. Commercially available NH3 analyzers are used in the method.

Description

To obtain timely data for the purpose of air quality assessment, air quality trend reporting and to meet the requirements for inclusion of the data in provincial and national air quality databases, a method of analyzing particulate matter (PM) in ambient air is used. The commercially available Partisol™ Model 2000 low flow rate sampler consisting of a hub station and up to three satellite stations is used in this method.

This method is capable of measurement updates at a rate of once every five minutes or faster. Readings from instruments of this method enables the calculation of hourly averaged concentrations of Total Hydrocarbons THC, Methane CH4 and Non-methane Hydrocarbons NMHC. Commercially available NMHC analyzers are used in the method.

Each year, a small number of Alberta babies are born with treatable conditions that can lead to severe physical disabilities, developmental delay, other health problems or even death. The purpose of the Newborn Metabolic Screening Program is to identify and treat infants for these conditions before the onset of symptoms. (Please note that the name of the program was changed to the Alberta Newborn Screening Program in December 2021.) Newborn screening is time-sensitive. Babies affected with some of the screened conditions will start to become ill and may suffer irreversible damage soon after birth. Early effective treatment can better manage these conditions and decrease morbidity and mortality. The purpose of this document is to set out the program’s policies, and to describe the roles and responsibilities of the various parties in implementing the program.
