Staff working in licensed child care programs have six months to be certified, but cannot be left alone to supervise children without certification.

The Ministry of Human Services has carefully reviewed the fatality inquiry report into the January 13, 2009 death of four-year-old J C, released on June 2, 2016. The inquiry found that the cause of death was cranial trauma with a large blood clot pressing on the surface of the brain and the manner of death was homicidal. The child was in provincial government care at the time of death.
