Description

This document establishes standards for consultant deliverables related to Alberta Parks and Protected Areas design and construction programs. Consultant agreements for architectural, engineering and related services typically require the production and submission to Alberta Parks and Protected Areas of 'deliverables' in the form of drawings, specifications, reports, schedules, etc. To take advantage of the significant efficiencies afforded through the distribution, use, and storage of these documents in electronic form, by multiple users, and throughout the project life cycle, it has become necessary to establish standards for these documents. As a prime example, making bid documents (drawings, specifications and addenda) available to bidders electronically in a consistent format would be extremely difficult to accomplish without standards for consultant deliverables.

Description

Visitation statistics are reported both at the park and ‘area’ level (i.e., individual campgrounds, day use areas, group use areas, fixed roof accommodation facilities). Statistics are summarized for provincial parks and recreation areas. The data collection systems associated with these visitation statistics are discussed in detail in the Introduction Section. Ten years of historical statistics for camping, group camping, fixed roof accommodation, and day use are included in this report. To put the province in perspective, a map depicting management areas, districts and selected sites (see Appendix) is also included.

Whether to see their friends and relatives, for business, or for pleasure, 19.6 million person-visits were made in 2006 to destinations in Alberta by residents of Alberta, other Canadians, visitors from the United States, and overseas visitors (same day and overnight trips for Alberta and other Canada, and overnight trips for the U.S. and overseas). To better understand the size and characteristics of these visitors, Alberta Tourism, Parks and Recreation commissioned Research Resolutions & Consulting to prepare a special analyses of the 2006 Travel Survey of Residents of Canada (TSRC) and the International Travel Survey (ITS) that are both conducted by Statistics Canada. These consumer surveys provide tourism information for travel in Alberta by Canadians and trips to the province made by U.S. and overseas visitors. This summary highlights key findings only. Brazeau Canyon Wildland Park is 50.4 square km (5,039 ha) in size. It was established on December 20, 2000. The park protects the Brazeau River valley and adjacent uplands, and includes the former Muskiki Lake Natural Area and the western part of Marshybank Ecological Reserve. Wildland parks are large undeveloped areas that cater to nature-based tourism and adventure travel. Includes a map delineating the park boundaries.
