The Municipal Stimulus Program provides additional capital infrastructure funding to municipalities with the primary objective to sustain and create local jobs, enhance provincial competitiveness and productivity, position communities to participate in future economic growth, and reduce municipal red-tape to promote job-creating private sector investment. These program guidelines include information on the program, funding formula and allocations, program eligibility and conditions, the application, review, and approval processes, and reporting requirements. Also included is a schedule of eligible capital project activities and a schedule of eligible capital project assets.

The Municipal Stimulus Program provides additional capital infrastructure funding to municipalities with the primary objective to sustain and create local jobs, enhance provincial competitiveness and productivity, position communities to participate in future economic growth, and reduce municipal red-tape to promote job-creating private sector investment. Description

All municipalities and Métis Settlements are eligible for Gas Tax Fund funding. The program provides conditional grants for capital-related projects which meet program eligibility criteria. GTF funding is allocated to municipalities on a per capita basis. The annual program budget is subject to Canada advising Alberta of the yearly provincial funding. Municipalities are advised of their annual GTF funding allocations after Alberta's funding has been confirmed by Canada and specific funding allocations have been authorized by the Minister of Alberta Municipal Affairs.

In order to alleviate acute liquidity concerns anticipated as a result of COVID-19, government has asked municipalities to provide a six-month deferral of non-residential education property tax or a combined municipal and education property tax deferral that is effectively equivalent to a six month deferral of education property tax.
