Description

Two main data sources for population counts of Alberta are the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP) Registry and the Census of Canada (Census). The collection and reporting methods used by these two counts differ greatly, and it is important that these methods are fully understood to help in determining which population estimate is appropriate for use in a particular circumstance. Comparison of the data shows that at the provincial level, the total population for the AHCIP Registry and the 2006 Census are very similar. However, variations are much more distinct when looking at variations in difference by age, sex and geographic area. Generally, the smaller the population of a particular category, the greater the difference.

Description

This report provides an overview of the performance for the first two years of the projections presented in Population Projections for Alberta and its Health Regions, 2004 to 2033, as well as an updated series of projections for the years 2006 to 2035. The new population projections were updated using revised estimates of migration and fertility, while the survival rates used in calculating the population projections from 2004 to 2033 were used again.

Description

This report presents population projections for Alberta and its nine health regions for the years 2004 to 2033. The methodology used to develop these projections has gone through several modifications since the previous population projections for 2000 to 2030. In addition, this is the first time projections have been developed since the reduction in the number of health regions from 17 to nine.

Description

This report presents population projections for Alberta and its health regions for the time period 2000 to 2030. The model developed in previous reports was applied to population figures derived from the Alberta Health Insurance Plan Stakeholder registry, with adjustments made to the previous model to account for recent high migration to three health regions: Calgary Regional Health Authority, Capital Health Authority, and David Thompson Health Authority.
