Degree Days are a measurement of heat accumulation. For the purpose of this report, Degree Days are calculated by subtracting the threshold temperature for West Nile Virus development (14.3 degrees celcius) from the daily mean temperature. Calculating the cumulative Degree Days over a season can be used to estimate the risk of transmission of the West Nile Virus by mosquitoes in Alberta. The risk of transmission increases with increasing Degree Day accumulation. Updated every two weeks during the West Nile Virus season.

In June 2018 the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate released an investigative review examining the lives of twelve youth who died from opioid poisoning between October 2015 and September 2017. The review identified opportunities for system improvements in five areas, with five corresponding recommendations. All five recommendations have been accepted by the Government of Alberta, as outlined in this document.

Publicly posting of the decision summaries began in April 2016 to promote transparency and to increase public awareness of the service providers’ accountability to the Protection for Persons in Care Act. Individually-identifiable health and other personal information are not included in the summaries, to protect all who were involved.
