On June 19, 2013, the Government of Alberta launched Together We Raise Tomorrow, a public engagement on how to better support the well-being, safety, security, education, and health of all children in Alberta. The engagement formed part of the province's year-long focus on working with communities to improve the quality of life for children and families, including the passage of the Children First Act in May 2013. This focused work on issues affecting children aligns directly with the goals Albertans identified under Alberta's Social Policy Framework: reducing inequality, protecting vulnerable people, enabling collaboration and partnerships, and creating a person-centred system of high quality services. This summary document identifies common themes and provides a high-level overview of the feedback received through Together We Raise Tomorrow. Under the Together We Raise Tomorrow banner, The Government of Alberta engaged with Albertans to develop the foundation of a Children’s Charter, inform strategies about reducing poverty, and explore concrete options for integrating the province’s early childhood development systems. Part of this engagement included community discussions, and this handbook was developed to provide support to those involved in facilitating these discussions and to help them lead conversations with employees, volunteers, and the clients they serve.

The First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) Workforce Planning Initiative was launched in 2008 and a four-member MLA Committee was appointed to write a report and put forward recommendations for consideration. The report, released in 2010 and entitled Connecting the Dots: Aboriginal Workforce and Economic Development in Alberta, included 30 recommendations. The Government of Alberta accepts 28 recommendations and accepts in principle two recommendations, and this document contains the government response to each of the 30 recommendations.

Description

The First Nations, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) Workforce Planning Initiative was launched in 2008. Over an 18-month period, the four-member MLA Committee which was appointed led an engagement process that included government-to-government meetings with First Nations and Métis leaders; urban Aboriginal dialogues; and meetings with educational institutions, training providers, service delivery, community and economic development organizations, other levels of government, employers, and industry. The focus of the engagement was increasing the participation of Aboriginal people in Alberta’s work force and economy. From all the discussions, input and information gathered the Committee has made 30 recommendations, which are included in this report.
