Soapweed and yucca moths have both been listed as Endangered in Alberta. Soapweeds (commonly known as yucca) and yucca moths have an obligate mutual relationship such that neither species can survive without the other. This plan provides background information on both species, describes the threats facing both, outlines proposed strategies to address these threats, and presents an action plan that lists priority actions required to maintain and recover the two species.

Trumpeter swan is the largest of all North American waterfowl. In Alberta, most of the trumpeter swan population is concentrated in the northwestern part of the province. The species is listed as Threatened in Alberta. The goal of this recovery plan is to achieve a self-sustaining trumpeter swan population well distributed throughout suitable habitat within Alberta, such that the trumpeter swan is eventually removed from the list of provinciall Threatened species. The plan provides background information on the trumpeter swan, describes the threats facing the species, outlines proposed strategies to address these threats, and presents an action plan that lists priority actions required to maintain and restore the species.

Description

The willow flycatcher inhabits shrub habitats in in many parts of North America, including the foothills of the Rocky Mountains of Alberta. In 2002, the Alberta Endangered Species Conservation Committee declared that there was insufficient information on the species to determine an official risk status for the province. The purpose of this study was to help clarify the status of the willow flycatcher in Alberta by compiling all reliable historical records of the species in the province developing a model to identify potential breeding habitat and conducting field surveys to document occupancy of historical sites and of sites identified by the model as being suitable for breeding by willow flycatchers.

Description

This wildlife status report looks at the prairie rattlesnake, one of three extant species of rattlesnake found in Alberta. It reaches the northern limit of its range in Alberta and is primarily distributed along major river drainages in the southeastern portion of the province. There appears to have been a long-term decline in abundance of the species in Alberta, likely related to significant historical persecution and habitat loss. At writing the prairie rattlesnake had a status of May Be At Risk. This report summarizes historical and recent information on the species as background information for a reassessment of its status. The report is part of the Alberta Wildlife Status Report series, which provides comprehensive summaries of selected wildlife species intended to be useful to those managing populations of species and their habitats, and to help identify species that may be formally designated as endangered or threatened.
