This plan is the Approved Water Management Plan for the Battle River Basin (Alberta) and provides direction for the management of surface water and groundwater that has hydrologic connection to surface water within the Battle River Basin. The recommended options and strategies presented in this plan were developed through a Stakeholder Advisory Group, and are designed to strike a balance between a healthy aquatic ecosystem, a vibrant economy, and sustainable communities. Primary emphasis is placed on the need to live within the carrying capacity of the watershed, and the need to improve the health of the aquatic ecosystem.

This fact sheet summarizes information on a study conducted to evaluate industrial water supply and wastewater treatment alternatives for the Industrial Heartland and Capital Region. In the study, five alternate engineering scenarios that encompassed wastewater management for all municipal and industrial entities in the region, and the supply of non-potable water for existing and future industries located in the Sherwood Park, Strathcona County and Fort Saskatchewan areas, were developed and evaluated.

The report is organized into two parts. Part one contains brief technical summaries of methods used to establish instream flow needs determinations in the South Saskatchewan river basin that provide for full protection of the aquatic environment. The purpose of summarizing these techniques within the following document is to provide a basis for the methodology used to evaluate impacts from alternative flow management scenarios. The second part of this document then explains the impact ratings methodology and demonstrates its application using example flow management scenarios applied to seven reaches of the Red Deer River.
