Description

This georeferenced map shows the boundaries of the Northwest Bison Protection Area in northern Alberta. Wood bison located within specified Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) are listed as Threatened under the Wildlife Act and Regulation, including the Hay-Zama and Etthithun Lake populations. In order to support the conservation, management and recovery of disease-free bison in northern Alberta, all hunting of wood bison within Northwest Bison Protection Area is regulated and based on issuance of a bison special licence and allocation processes for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous persons. This map can be viewed with a standard PDF viewer, but contains additional interactive enhancements that can only be accessed through specific reader apps. Proposal for a 330 megawatt hydroelectric project located on the Peace River, approximately 15 km upstream of Dunvegan, Alberta in northwestern Alberta. Project components would consist of a powerhouse, spillway, headpond, fish passage, access roads, connecting transmission line and substation and other construction related components (e.g. cofferdams, quarries, camp, laydown areas, etc.) For more information on the environmental assessment process visit ea.alberta.ca.

This program package gives details on how the program fits with the Alberta curriculum for Grade 2 Science and includes a planning checklist, information on what to bring along on fieldtrips, parent volunteer information, and supplementary pre-fieldtrip classroom activities, extension activities and resource materials.
