In addition to the primary provincial base map, this series includes various themes that overlay the primary base map. The update of this map series is based on the provincial Base Features Access Update Program that has an approximate 5 year update cycle. Each individual map sheet is provided in Adobe .pdf format. The Hydrologic Unit Code (HUC) Watersheds of Alberta represents a collection of five nested hierarchically structured drainage basin feature classes that have been created using the Hydrologic Unit Code system of classification developed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) with accommodation to reflect the pre-existing Canadian classification system. Description

This project generated unique numerical codes at the pixel level to provide wall-to-wall coverage of 128 unique Catchment Structural Units (CSUs) codes based on land use-land cover (LULC), surficial geology, wetlands and slope across the Province. The Provincial CSU layer represents the quantification of combined structural influences at an individual pixel scale, as expressed by a specific numeric and text code. These codes reflect the geospatial layers used to represent catchment structure. The CSU data is presented at a pixel resolution of 20 x 20 m and five initial structural layers (i.e., land cover, land use, surficial geology, wetlands and slope). This resolution was chosen to balance detail with computational efficiency. Each class within the structural layers were assigned unique numeric codes of different orders of magnitude.

The scope of this protocol is limited to on-farm reductions of emissions from nitrogen sources and fuel use associated with the management of synthetic fertilizer, manure fertilizer and crop residues. Greenhouse gas (GHG) reductions associated with carbon sequestration in the soil and off-site emission reductions affected by the manufacture and distribution of nitrogen fertilizers are excluded from the protocol. The exclusion of off-site reductions of fertilizer manufacturing increases conservativeness in emission reduction calculations and limits the scope of quantification to those sources, sinks and/or reservoirs for which data are readily available.
