As more people work in bear habitat, the potential for human-bear interactions increases. Preventing conflicts is a priority in Alberta. This resource outlines practices required for work camps establishing or operating in bear country during the bear season. Implementation of these practices will enhance the safety of all affected workers and improve the management and conservation of black and grizzly bears in Alberta by reducing human-bear conflicts.

The Livingstone-Porcupine Hills Recreation Management Plan addresses the priorities for outdoor recreation expressed in the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan (SSRP). The SSRP prioritized planning for the Livingstone-Porcupine Hills areas as a region of high recreational use. It contains the headwaters of the Oldman River, supports biodiversity values, requires the management of wildlife risk and provides traditional First Nations land uses. The Government of Alberta aims to provide a diversity of outdoor recreation opportunities while recognizing that recreation occurs within a multiple use landscape with complex environmental, economic and social values.

Alberta’s Land-use Framework (LUF), released in December 2008, sets out a new approach to managing the province’s land and natural resources to achieve Alberta’s long-term economic, environmental and social goals. The LUF establishes seven new land-use regions and calls for the development of a regional plan for each. The South Saskatchewan Regional Plan sets the stage for robust growth, vibrant communities and a healthy environment within the region over the next 50 years. This resource presents an amendment of the original plan published in 2014.

Parks provide opportunities for learning and social connection in diverse landscapes and facilities. Finally, parks protect natural habitat and processes and provide clean air and water. Regardless of age, ability, gender, cultural background, education level, or individual perspective, time spent in nature can be an inspiring escape from the busy urban world. This document strives to create a foundation for the inclusion of all Albertans into park experiences and landscapes - from their first “experience of a lifetime” to a lifetime of experiences. This inclusion plan is a commitment that everyone is welcome in Alberta’s parks – and that everyone belongs outside.

This decision designates nine nodes of public land for commercial recreation and tourism development in the West Yellowhead Corridor of Alberta. The land management decision is a refinement of the 1990 Coal Branch Sub-Regional Integrated Resource Plan and provides greater provincial land and resource management direction for municipal area structure planning. The coordination of commercial recreation and tourism activities within designated nodes addresses orderly development within the West Yellowhead Corridor in an effort to maintain the natural values of the area that are the foundation of recreation experiences.
