Description

These reports summarize the Canadian Ambient Air Quality Standards status for Alberta’s air zones for ambient concentrations of fine particulate matter, ground-level ozone, nitrogen dioxide, and sulphur dioxide. These reports also summarizes the status of air quality in relation to the Air Quality Management Frameworks currently in place in Alberta: the Lower Athabasca AQMF supporting the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan and the South Saskatchewan AQMF supporting the South Saskatchewan Regional Plan.

Description

This resource provides guidance on air quality management to meet Alberta's commitment to implementing the national Air Quality Management System. Alberta Environment and Parks is advancing the Red Deer Regional Plan and North Saskatchewan Regional Plan, and the associated air quality management frameworks, to ensure that Alberta can meet its national commitments prior to the completion of the regional planning process. This interim approach is a collaborative performance management system developed by Environment and Parks to manage the cumulative effects of point and non-point sources on air quality in the regions. Air quality management frameworks for the Red Deer and North Saskatchewan regions developed under a regional plan will supersede this interim approach.

Performance specification standards have been developed as part of the revision and update of the Alberta Air Monitoring Directive. The specification standard sheets were designed to provide a reference for approved methods and minimum performance specifications to assure the consistency and reliability of continuous ambient air quality measurement in the province. Each specification standard sheet includes the following categories: field of application; air monitoring objectives; operational methods; minimum specifications; operational requirements; calibration requirements; reporting requirements; and additional information.
