This document outlines the unique considerations relevant to managing Castle Provincial Park and Castle Wildland Provincial Park within the context of the system of Alberta's provincial parks. In the plan, each issue is given context, management objectives are identified and corresponding strategies are provided. The management plan is designed to provide a long term and comprehensive framework to guide both park operations and park developments. It has been produced in consultation with Albertans, stakeholders and First Nations, and is intended to help achieve sustainable protection of the valuable natural and cultural resources, and to provide the foundation for long-term economic benefits to the people of Alberta.

This dataset is produced for the Government of Alberta and is available to the general public. Please consult the Distribution Information of this metadata for the appropriate contact to acquire this dataset. Alberta Land Inventory (ALI) and Canada Land Inventory (CLI) Landform consists of a single polygon feature class with associated attributes. These attributes describe the landform polygons in terms of parent geologic material, surface form, generalized texture, and slope. The attribution includes the original ALI/CLI coding as well as the equivalent Physical Land Classification (PLC) codes. CLI and ALI landform polygons were photo interpreted in the 1960's and 70's. The linework was transferred to mylar overlay and 319 maps were published at a scale of 1:63360, using the National Topographic Series (NTS) maps as a base. Environmental Impact Assessment registry documents pertaining to the proposed Suncor Energy Inc. Lewis project. The proposal is for in situ extraction with an estimated total bitumen production of 160,000 bpd and an operational life of up to 40 years. The project would be developed in four phases, supported by cogeneration of electricity to be constructed within the first two phases. Project components include gas fired steam generation including some cogeneration, water treatment and recycling, bitumen treatment, multi-well production pads, steam delivery pipelines, product recovery pipelines, local access roads, and borrow pits. The IH-DIZ industrial zoned land extends into 5 different municipalities, including: Approx. 533 km2 within the City of Fort Saskatchewan and the Counties of Lamont, Strathcona and Sturgeon. Approx. 49 km2 in the City of Edmonton, which is the industrial area known as the Edmonton Energy and Technology Park.

Designated industrial zones in Alberta are areas targeted for strategic investment and development of clustered industrial development and economic diversification. Alberta Environment and Parks and the Alberta Energy Regulator have developed this directive as a tool to more efficiently and effectively regulate the industries within the Industrial Heartland Designated Industrial Zone to help achieve consistency across the zone and environmental outcomes. The directive focuses on aligning standard conditions under the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act for all facilities in the zone and clarifies requirements for new proponents intending to locate in the zone.

Description

The Integrated Resource Plan - Local dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent the Local Integrated Resource Plans (IRP) in Alberta. A Local IRP provides land resource management direction for a relatively smaller geographic planning area. A Local Plan is developed to provide more detailed land and resource use parameters than may be available in a Sub-Regional Plan. An IRP is a plan which identifies the values and associated land and resource management goals for the planning area in consideration of the maintenance of social, economic, and ecological values. An IRP provides direction regarding the type of land and resource management activity that would facilitate meeting the stated objectives in the planning area (e.g. recreation, grazing, industrial and commercial activities). The public was often involved in contributing input to the development of an IRP. IRPs were endorsed by the Government of Alberta in various periods.

The Cold Lake Sub-Regional Plan Spatial Data dataset contains spatial data that can be used for planning as described within the Cold Lake Sub-regional Plan (2022). The following datasets are available: Cold Lake Watercourse/Waterbody Setbacks, and Cold Lake Recreational Management Areas.
