Environmental Impact Assessment and associated applications pertaining to the proposed Connacher Oil and Gas Limited Great Divide SAGD Expansion Project. Connacher is proposing to expand the productive capacity of its existing facilities by an additional 3,700 m3 of bitumen per day to bring the overall lease production to approximately 7,000 m3/day (44,000 bbl/d) of bitumen. The location of the project is approximately 70 km south of Fort McMurray in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo. The EIA was deemed complete in 2012. The proposal involves capture, transport and storage of CO2, however provincial EIA is only required for the storage component of the proposed project. 1.2 million tonnes of CO2 per year would be captured and transported by pipeline to injections wells 2km below surface in Basal Cambrian Sands. Alberta Environment has completed five annual assessments of particulate matter (PM) and ozone data as promised under the Clean Air Strategic Alliance (CASA) Particulate Matter and Ozone Management Framework. These assessments compare outdoor levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and ozone data to action triggers defined by the CASA Framework. Action levels have been assigned to the Edmonton and Calgary Census Metropolitan Areas and individual air monitoring stations in Alberta based on the procedure defined by the Canada Wide Standards (CWS) for particulate matter and ozone and the CASA Framework.
