Alberta Environment regulates waterworks systems that supply water to approximately 80 per cent of the province's population. The purpose of this document is to outline: the process followed by the Federal/Provincial/Territorial Committee on Drinking Water to develop the Guidelines for Canadian Drinking Water Quality; how these guidelines will be implemented by Alberta Environment; how these guidelines are monitored and reported; and the protocol to be followed in the event that a non-bacteriological drinking water test result exceeds a health limit. It is intended that this document will increase the awareness and confidence Albertans have in the drinking water provided to them by regulated waterworks systems.

This document provides information and guidance on each of the three compliance options for drilling waste disposal areas to assist well licencees and reclamation practitioners in meeting requirements for the Upstream Oil and Gas Reclamation and Remediation Program, which came into effect on October 1, 2003. Under the Program, oil and gas operators are required to submit drilling waste disposal information for drilling waste that was disposed of on a wellsite or at a remote sump or land treatment site to indicate compliance with Alberta Environment standards.
