Alberta’s Drought Response Plan is designed to help government, irrigators, communities, businesses and others respond quickly and effectively to drought. The objective of each action in the plan is to protect the health and safety of Albertans from the impacts of drought. This information sheet explains the five stages of drought response and drought response tools.

Environmental Impact Assessment and associated applications pertaining to the proposed St. Mary Irrigation District Chin Reservoir Expansion Project. Chin Reservoir is an off-stream storage reservoir that is located roughly in the middle of St. Mary River Irrigation District (SMRID) irrigation network, approximately 30 kilometers (km) east of Lethbridge and 15 km south of Taber. The Chin Reservoir Expansion Project (the Project) involves the construction of a new dam which would result in a larger reservoir. The new dam would be approximately 40 meters (m) in height and is expected to inundate (flood) approximately 650 hectares (ha) of privately held land within Chin Coulee. Alberta's framework for the management of contaminated sites is designed to achieve three policy outcomes: pollution prevention, health protection, and productive use. Under this framework, three management options are provided: Tier 1, Tier 2, and Exposure Control. Under Tier 2 it may be possible to screen out certain exposure pathways and/or modify the Tier 1 guidelines on the basis of site conditions. This document describes Alberta's apportionment agreement with the other prairie provinces. The Rocky Mountains in Alberta are the headwaters of many rivers that flow east into the other prairie provinces. To help ensure that downstream provinces can meet their water needs, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba have agreed to share water resources between the three provinces. The process of determining each province’s portion of water is referred to as apportionment.
