This study set out to define appropriate process concepts for the refining of economic bitumen to petrochemicals in Alberta and includes related research and development and demonstration needs, recognizing possible synergies with oil refining, bitumen upgraders, existing petrochemical industries, natural gas liquids, natural gas and their existing and potentially enhanced facilities. The report identifies viable integration schemes for producing petrochemicals from oil sands, which if implemented, could lead to long-term industrial development in Alberta.
