Sulphur Gates Provincial Recreation Area (PRA) has been expanded in area, adding approximately 11 square kilometres (1,088 hectares) to the existing 26 hectare site. A PRA is designed to support a wide variety of recreational pursuits, as well as contribute to the preservation goal of Alberta's Parks and Protected Areas program.

Fickle Lake Provincial Recreation Area (PRA) was expanded by over ten square kilometres (1,152 hectares) to include the entire lake and adjacent uplands. Now 11.52 square kilometres (1,152 hectares), this PRA is situated in the lower foothills, southwest of Edson. A PRA supports a wide variety of recreational pursuits, and contributes to the preservation goal of Alberta's parks and protected areas network.
